MSC Technology Italia is looking for an experienced Naval IT Business Analyst to join its Operational team.

The successful candidate will combine strong knowledge of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering with IT and Business Analysis expertise, acting as a key interface between Planning teams, business stakeholders, and software development teams.

The role will focus on translating vessel physics, stability principles, maritime regulations, stowage planning requirements, and operational constraints into clear functional requirements for developers, while supporting the implementation and continuous evolution of planning software used by terminals and Planning Offices for vessel load and stowage planning.

This role is ideal for professionals with a strong understanding of the maritime and container shipping business who have experience working on IT or software-related projects and are comfortable operating in a Business-to-IT environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a Business-to-IT interface, combining naval and marine domain expertise with Business Analysis activities to support the development and evolution of vessel planning software.

• Collect, analyze, structure, and document business requirements from Planning Offices, terminals, and other relevant stakeholders, translating them into clear functional requirements and actionable specifications for software developers.

• Translate vessel physics, stability principles, longitudinal strength, maritime regulations, safety parameters, algorithms, and operational constraints into functional information that development teams can effectively implement.

• Provide technical and operational expertise on vessel stowage planning, stability, safety parameters, vessel structure, and container ship operations.

• Design and maintain vessel profiles within Planning and Stowage software, ensuring consistency with vessel characteristics, applicable regulations, operational requirements, and established restrictions.

• Support MSC Planning Offices in understanding and managing requirements related to stowage plans, vessel stability, safety parameters, and vessel maximization, including the analysis and resolution of discrepancies between planning results and actual vessel conditions.

• Follow software implementations throughout the development lifecycle, working closely with Software Engineers, Business Analysts, Product Managers, Domain Experts, terminals, and Planning Offices to support requirements clarification, prioritization, testing, solution validation, acceptance, and deployment.

• Contribute to the evolution and continuous improvement of vessel planning solutions, including CASP, supporting software calculation quality, process gap analysis, and the reliability and effectiveness of tools used for vessel load and stowage planning.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.

• Strong knowledge of the maritime and container shipping business, with a solid understanding of vessel operations, stowage planning processes, vessel structure, stability, longitudinal strength, and container ship layouts.

• Strong knowledge of vessel-related regulations, Classification requirements, safety standards, and relevant maritime industry rules, with the ability to translate them into functional requirements for software development teams.

• Previous experience working on IT, software development, or digitalization projects, ideally within maritime, shipping, vessel planning, or other operational environments.

• Experience or strong aptitude in Business Analysis, including requirements gathering, process analysis, functional specification, solution validation, and interaction with software development teams.

• Ability to translate complex naval engineering concepts, physical principles, algorithms, regulatory requirements, and operational business needs into clear and structured information that developers can implement.

• Experience or familiarity with vessel stability programs and stowage planning software; knowledge of CASP or comparable planning solutions is considered an advantage.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard IT tools; knowledge of software development practices, Agile environments, and Azure DevOps is considered a plus.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Planning Offices, terminals, business stakeholders, and software development teams, with professional proficiency in English.

In compliance with applicable pay transparency legislation, we provide the following information regarding the initial remuneration envisaged for this position.

The position will be classified within the Employee category, at one of the C2, C3, B1 or B2 levels under the Italian Metalworking Industry National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL Metalmeccanico Industria).

The classification level and any additional remuneration components supplementing the base salary will be determined based on an assessment, carried out during the selection process, of objective and neutral criteria such as, by way of example, the candidate’s professional experience, technical skills, level of autonomy and the responsibilities required by the role.
