The Local Technical Support Engineer is our recognized, trusted technical expert for Italian market. You build a strong and trustful relationship with customer and stakeholders and you offer technical support to customers with a focus on design and Features & Benefits to influence purchasing demands.

You work closely within our great local team of Sales, Customer Service in Italy and your Technical Support colleagues in other territories.

The main objectives of the role are:

• 
  
• Spend app. 40% of your time by specifying Viking products and solutions to end-users, engineering bodies and other specifiers
  
• Provide level 2 technical support for water, foam, water mist, gas and detection products to Viking EMEA customers and staff
  
• Provide technical trainings to contractors, end-users and specifiers
  
• Enforce Viking S.A.’s local presence by promoting and presenting Viking products via seminars, lunch & learns, exhibition participation and more,
  
• Optimizing Viking product solution offerings, in close corporation with Product Managers.
  
• Contribute to sales growth with the local sales team to reach the local annual sales and margin targets.
  

Furthermore, you will have the following duties:

SPECIFICATION

• 
  
• Drive additional products revenue and profit in EMEA through end-users value creation based on
  

Viking range,

• 
  
• Increase Viking EMEA products awareness at end users and other influencers level (insurances,
  
  
• industry associations, consultants, etc.) via interaction with target peers and solid networking,
  
  
• Establish, within your local territory, Viking EMEA as “go to” solution provider within the EMEA fire protection industry, improve Viking reputation as a fire safety solution provider,
  
  
• Work closely with the Leader Products and Solutions Specifying
  
  

TECHNICAL SALES SUPPORT

Provide technical support to customers, working closely with Sales and Customer Service.

• 
  
• Deliver excellent technical guidance to staff, clients and specifiers regarding water, foam and water mist systems,
  
  
• Producing specifications and realizing bill of materials,
  
  
• Prepare system bills of material from tender documents and specifications to assist local offices in quoting,
  
  
• Work with local Sales Representatives to identify new and upcoming project opportunities,
  
  
• Provide on-site support for customers,
  
  
• Assist customers and specifiers in complex projects to identify fire risks and advise systems and products,
  
  
• Provide key advantages of our products compared to competitor products,
  
  
• Provide technical submissions and technical documentation to customers,
  
  
• Work with sales team to promote Viking to new potential customers,
  
  
• Follow up special projects with customers on a more technical level, EG sprinkler, foam, water mist or gas and detection projects,
  
  

TRAINING

Identify, provide and organize trainings and seminars for customers and colleagues.

• 
  
• Share knowledge and experience with technical support colleagues,
  
  
• Organize and provide training and seminars both in-house and at customer locations,
  
  
• Train and support other LTS and replace in case of need,
  
  

MARKETING / PROMOTION / NETWORKING

• 
  
• Preparing for and attending trade shows and exhibitions,
  
  
• Network with specifiers to increase awareness and specification of Viking products,
  
  
• Promote and co-ordinate Viking’s participation in local trade associations including assisting with their activities,
  
  
• Maintain & develop industry contacts,
  
  
• Attend and take customers to production sites, e.g. taking customers to KCA or gas/detection training in Bad Oldesloe,
  
  
• Review translated documentation for accuracy.
  
  

PRODUCT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT

Contribute to the development of the product categories and new product launches.

• Provide market information to Product Managers,
  
  
• Provide written specifications in general or individual for projects,
  
  
• Work with the Product Managers on new products launches,
  
  
• Suggest new products and product improvements,
  
  
• Assisting Product Managers with obtaining local approvals and Product launch.
  
  

STANDARDS AND APPROVALS

Obtain and manage local standards and approvals.

• 
  
• Define and realize local standard solutions (e.g. local regulations, authorizations),
  
  
• Identify in each country the local approval organizations, procedures and lobbying opportunities and organize the adequate lobbying,
  
  
• Participate in working groups to help improving local standards.
  
  

CLAIMS, ADMINISTRATION AND ADDITIONAL TASKS

Support customers when they have requests.

• 
  
• Assist in commissioning, troubleshooting and quality claims if required,
  
  
• Support sub-contractors where necessary, e.g. on foam tank/testing filling,
  
  
• Assist with inspections of the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).
  
  

Ideally, you are based in Milan area (Viking Italy office is in Milan). The position requires occasional traveling mostly in Italy, but visits may be required to other countries as well. The Technical Sales Engineer will report to the Sales Manager of Viking Italia, also based in Milan.

Qualifications and experience:

• 
  
• Background in technical / business development within the fire protection or related business
  
• Engineering background (Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronical) and understanding for the jargon within the contracting business
  
• Good knowledge of Fire protection rules, experience in the design of systems would be an assets
  
• Knowledge of special hazards engineering is nice to have
  
• Prefab/pipework installation experience is desirable
  
• Proven technical skills, experiences
  
• Italian and English languages are a must, French language skills would be an advantage, but are not a pre-requisite
